Awesome After-School and Day Camp Kits

Bridgette Helms, our illustrious Association President, came across this wonderful tool at the recent NAE4-HA conference in Rochester, New York.

The 4-H Awesome After School Kits, from the University of Florida, offer flexibility in programming for 4-H agents and volunteers by providing the curriculum, lesson plans and a shopping guide to build four kits that center on a particular 4-H project category, allowing students to explore project areas and 4-H activities related to that topic.

The project areas each contain 3 lessons which are 60 to 90 minutes in length. For a complete educational overview, including life skill areas and academic standards, please review the Awesome Afterschool Kits Curriculum Matrix.

The Design of the Kits was made possible with funding from the Florida 4-H Foundation. Designers are Heather Kent, Monica Brinkley and Kelley Hiemstra. Any additions or suggestions please contact Heather Kent or visit the website by clicking here.

Do Something!

What It's All About:
"Do Something" believes youth have the power to make a difference. It is their aim to inspire, support and celebrate a generation of doers: people who see the need to do something, believe in their ability to get it done, and then take action. DoSomething.org provides the tools and resources for you to convert your ideas and energy into positive action. Be part of a generation of doers.
Five guidelines the DO SOMETHING team lives by:
1. Believe in teenagers. Teenagers can lead today. We don't require adults.
2. Trust teenagers. We provide reliable, easy to access information and activation strategies, but teens decide for themselves what to do.
3. Celebrate teenagers. We think all measurable contributions from teens are valuable.
4. Respect teenagers. We understand that teenagers have diverse abilities and constraints.
5. Value teenagers. Our programs and products are free. We're not after teens' money; we want their passion, time and creativity.
Visit www.dosomething.org to find out more. They have a wealth information and grant dollars to help your 4-H'ers develop into adults who give back to their communities!
